Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
